1. National Shortages Plan

Revisions to the National Plan for the Management of Shortages of Labile Blood Components are complete. Click here to access the Plan.

The Blood Shortage Working Group (BSWG) maintains the Plan on behalf of the National Advisory Committee on Blood and Blood Products (NAC).

2. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors
January 23, 2012

Reversal of Direct Thrombin Inhibitors (i.e. Dabigatran / Pradaxa) and Direct Factor Xa Inhibitors (i.e. Rivaroxaban / Xarelto).

At this time, there is insufficient evidence available to allow the National Advisory Committee on Blood and Blood Products (NAC) to develop a recommendation for use of prothrombin complex concentrates, FEIBA or recombinant Factor VIIa in the reversal of Direct Thrombin Inhibitors or Direct Factor Xa Inhibitors.
